meltorment Posted April 20, 2003 Posted April 20, 2003 i was wondering, is it possible for the mobo to power up(fans running, lights on) if the cpu is damaged? this is my first from-scratch build, and i can't get my mobo to tell me it's ok. no beeps, but lights and fans. also, my hd and floppy don't power-up. my cd-rom light is on, but it's amber colored (isn't is supposed to be grn?). i would appreciate any helpful suggestions or tips. mahalo. soyo kv7 dragon plus mobo xp1900 cpu w/ antec cooler 512mb pc2100 ddr ram (samsung, i think) 80gb, 7200rpm ata133 8mb hd/maxtor generic floppy and cd-rom (will upgrade later) antec 300w ps(included w/older server-style case)
eclipsera Posted April 20, 2003 Posted April 20, 2003 the psu fan is spinning? is the cpu fan spinnin, and does it plug into the mobo or the power supply. either low power psu, or bad cpu. atleast thats my guess.
mikeock Posted April 20, 2003 Posted April 20, 2003 Yes it will all power if the cpu is damaged. It will just give the correct amount of beeps for a dead cpu
meltorment Posted April 20, 2003 Posted April 20, 2003 it speaks! after a little more tinkering and a smoke, i removed the mobo from the case and rewired my connections, leaving just the psu and mobo. i get consistent beeps now. it doesn't stop, but beeps at intervals of 5 seconds i would guess. i reset the cmos too. am i on the right track, or does this bode bad for me? meltorment Posted April 22, 2003 Posted April 22, 2003 i do appreciate all the concern, but i suppose i got lucky. i removed the mobo, stripped it down to mbc, and whabbo! i got the "all clear" two beep. had a little trouble installing the os; kept getting a message "ntlbr is missing".
