gotdamojo06 Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 is it possible that he took too much off and there is not a good solid contact between the cpu and the hs?
road-runner Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 what paste is it? Arctic Silver needs a bit of time to burn in and become fully effective I think they say 200 hours
Still_Naive Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 (edited) Speaking of lapping a CPU, it's a horrendous pain in the censored term for human buttocks. I'm about 1 1/2 hours into lapping a superhot FX-55 and it's literally only showing about 25% of the copper on the IHS. And I started on freaking 120 grit so I could get past this point quicker. kingdingeling Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 just take the IHS off, no big deal, its easy! I did it on 2 CPUs already, and will most likely get this 3rd 3700+ on the way soon :thumbs-up:
Still_Naive Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 I'm considering it, but what's keeping me from doing it is the fact that I don't want to have to file down the HS mounting. I've got an XP-90c and I'm not even that sure how I'd do it.
hardnrg Posted March 18, 2007 Posted March 18, 2007 check the link in my sig it's really easy to file it down... also, the point of lapping is to achieve flatness for maximum contact, it's not necessary to lap down to the copper over the entire IHS... anyway yeah check the guide and watch the funky video
