Hey guys I recently deleted my cstrike folder to get rid of my custom skins and got new ones. Before I did this, my fps were alright 35-40. Now im lucky if I get 20, this is even so when I create my own server (single player). Does anyone know what might be able to tell me what happened? Getting a new card is out of the question right now, because its an AGP and I dont want to get a new AGP card...lol. Im currently planning on upgrading the mobo and getting a pci-e card, but that wont be for a while i think :(

Using custom skins will make your CS:S run slower. It just depends on the detail, and complexity of the skins. Thus the more detailed the skin is, the more it bogs down your CS. So I would recommend you remove your custom skins, and go back to the CS defaults, or your old custom skins, and see if your situation improves. :)

AGP is dying off almost completely I think; so an upgrade would be best lol

As far as the FPS goes, try getting rid of those skins completely and see what it does, and then add a few and see how it changes, it might just be you have too many? Or maybe Clay is right about the resolutions of the skins. Just keep messing with them.

:withstupid: You just got to test it out. Right now you have no control group. Remove all custom skins and see what your fps is. Then you'll know if it's the new skins or old skins that are the issue here.

Well this is what I had everything skined just about, I had a new CT and T skin, weapons pack(which I think Im going to get rid of), muzzle flash (removed and got a little better) and an explosion. I also went into the settings and turned the details down past the suggested settings.

So PCI-E is going to make an extremely big difference in the graphics?

Thats the one Im looking at and the one I have right now is here...

Anything is going to make a big difference over the 9200....that's a 5 year old card (at least?)....without a doubt the bottleneck of your system (you probably should have upgraded that when you got your 3500+). CS:S doesn't take a high-end system by any means. Only a few maps are real chokers (eg. cs_militia). I only have a 6800GT which is a three years old and I can still max out everything with HDR and have no fps problems, so you don't have to make a huge investment if CS:S is the only game you care about.

Like I said, remove all custom skins/mods and then check your fps. And of course if you want to compare, make sure you're not comparing across maps. Comparing cs_militia with no skins will still probably have a lower fps than cs_office with high-detailed skins.

EDIT: I just looked your link. FireGL is for graphics artists, like for CAD. You definitely don't want that.

Yeah this card was the first one that i bought so that I could install a game on my old rig. The install wouldnt work with the onboard video. But that was about 4 rigs ago...lol

The card hasnt given me any problems yet.

I did uninstall all the guns and it made everything better, so im happy. I now am getting 30-40 fps, which is better than the 17-18 i was before, but not the best...

<-----EDIT----->

Since I need a new Vid card I would need a new mobo, so why not new CPU and RAM?

LOL

I want to stay ATI and AMD, what mobo and socket should I go?

I will be turning this rig into a Folding 24/7 rig, so any suggestions?
