i'm really confused by your description of your setup, can you give a little dialog?

 

What it SHOULD be is:

 

cable modem

V

wireless router

|

|->computer via wi-fi

|

|->computer via lan port

|

|->computer via lan port

|

|->computer via lan port

 

 

In other words, the cable modem should be going into the router, not into a computer. (you can set up a computer to be a router, but that gets messy).

So what's that second router for? Is that what you want to put in your room? If so, that's okay...you can daisy-chain routers, though under normal circumstances using a switch would be easier.

Yep. But once you turn of DHCP on the second router it basically becomse a switch.

 

If you're going to go that route, you'll need to setup internet connection sharing on the computer with the wireless NIC. And when you plug it into the switch-ified router in your room, use a LAN port (not WLAN).
