New Card For My New Rig

Going to be building a new computer before I go back to college. A64 and PCI-x, probaby 2gig memory. BUt, on to the video card. Im looking to spend around $400 on it. What is the best bang for the buck?

That 7800gtx cooler looks like it will hold in heat, not to mention make it harder to cool the card in general(voltage regulators, mem, cooler, etc) with direct airflow from case fans and such.

I think that all depends on what chipset your mobo will have. A 7800GT will play nicer with an nVidia chipset, and an 1800XL will be better with an ATI chipset. Both cards are ~$300 (the ATI is just a little more), but will play pretty much anything ya got.

hes talking about PCI-E

 

Just to let you know,

 

PCI-X and Pci-e are two differant things

pci-x is a server slot and is basicly two pci slots in one

didn't know that. ive heard that there isnt much performance difference between the 7800 gt and the gtx. would it really be worth it to spend the extra money for a few frames i wont even notice?
