Boggs30 Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 This is where I'm currently at in this forensic build. I've tried to think of most all possibilities I may encouter when doing a forensic exam. Listed below in the equipment to date. Any suggestions as to what I may be lacking in this build or may encouter w/ an exam, please give me input. lilkev715 Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 (edited) Everything looks good encept for one item: the thermalcrap PSU . Since you haven't fully assembled the system yet, I would advise getting a better PSU RIGHT away. If you need help deciding, just let us know. Edit: what mobo/CPU/video card setup will you be running on this system? Edited November 9, 2005 by lilkev715

Boggs30 Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 I must agree. When I order it, it seemed like a good deal. I have since decided on a 4400 dual core and =/> Gig Ram (OCZ or Corsair). With the amount of power hungry devices, I must get a higher quality psu. I have an Ultra X Connect 500w. It's ok. Any suggestions? Reliability is most important. PC Pwr & Cooling is out. Too much $...
GlimmerMan Posted November 11, 2005 Posted November 11, 2005 Go for an OCZ PSU not that ultra crap. And i love it how everybody hates thermalcrap. because im also an anti-tc (thermalcrap) member.
Boggs30 Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Well I just oredered the final parts (CPU, mobo, memory, etc. for this forensic build. I took Bigred's advice and went dual core. This is definitely a worstation type rig. After much reading here I see OCZ is very good quality memory. 2 Gigs should do for now. I'm going to use my old 9600XT 256 MB AGP since this is not a gaming rig. I decided to wait a couple months to upgrade the ps to an OCZ. I may post some pics of the rig inside and out after completion. Hopefully this rig will help solve some serious computer crimes-FAST! 1 Nero 7 Ultra Edition Software - Retail Item #: N82E16800996301 $120.00 Free w/ dual core AMD purchase Item(s) shipped from NJ 1 AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Model ADA4400CDBOX - Retail Item #: N82E16819103546 $497.00 1 Western Digital Raptor WD740GD 74GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive - OEM Item #: N82E16822144160 $161.00 1 ZALMAN CNPS7000B-AlCu LED 2 Ball Blue LED Light Cooling Fan/Heatsink - Retail Item #: N82E16835118118 $31.99 1 MSI K8N Neo2-F Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce3 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail Item #: N82E16813130514 $78.00 1 OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Platinum System Memory Model OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K - Retail Item #: N82E16820227210 $251.44 Item(s) shipped from TN Subtotal: $1,016.44 Tax: $0.00 Shipping: $43.15 Rush Order Fee: $2.99 Total: $1,062.58 Finshed rig: Above items plus, Maxtor 300 Gig SATA, 420 W Thermaltake ps, dual 5.25, 3.5 floppy, IDE external port, SATA external port, 2 removalble HDD trays, Firewire, USB front ports, HDD write blocker, and a few red lights . Kamikaze_Badger Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 If this system is going to be used for forensic work, I would really recommend 4 gigs of RAM at the very least.
