NewtWare Posted February 17, 2003 Posted February 17, 2003 I have a card and a onboard lan. is if faster or more bandwidth w/ using two cards or it does it not do crap?
RVE Posted February 17, 2003 Posted February 17, 2003 Might send stuff faster between your comp and where the 2 connections go, like to the router or something. But I would believe trying to set them both up to run at the same time might have some conflicts or something. Maybe cause neither of them to work until you disable one. If you can get it to work then I would think it would only make info get sent to/from your comp faster from the router, but won't make overall speeds faster from the internet to your comp. That's just what I think, I'm no networking specialist or anything.

DeMoN Posted February 17, 2003 Posted February 17, 2003 being a ccna i see this all the time. ppl think that if u have 2 nics then u have double the bandwidth. well it is wrong. if u put 2 nics in to a the nics MUST be pluged into 2 seperate networks or subnet masks. by putting the 2 nics in the same network you will have major problems with loops in the network. there are 2 ways to solve this problem, 1st take out the 2nd nic, it is only going to casue slow speeds later on due to broadcasts. 2nd spend $$$$ and get a switch that has spanning tree protocol running on it, ( spanning tree allows multiple connections from 1 computer, how it works is the switch puts 1 of the nics in to holding and will only use it when it senses that the 1st nic has failed. so there no real way to use 2 nics to double ur bandwidth. now i have done dual 56k modems which with the right software and a isp that allows multiple connections and that would double ur connection. dgrundtisch Posted March 22, 2003 Posted March 22, 2003 i've been told you could use one as sending data and use a second for receiving data
