on my brother computer at work

someone

has removed the icon for user managment

he wants to set up a password throught there how do i get into that area to do this if it was removed?

He removed the icon from the control panel? or just an icon on the desktop.

You can try searching for :

*.cpl

That might turn something up.

 

If not and he is savy enought He could do this via the "net user" command.

 

Also there is the option to create and modify accounts through computer managment

Start->Run-> "compmgmt.msc" Or right click on my computer-> Manage

it is not him that is not savy lol

he knows nothing at all about computers i built it for him

 

i know some but just not here.lol

i get to the managment screen but now where

windows managment insturmentation?

darn

 

this will only work for windows 2000 i think

 

the problem is that hit IT guy probably diaabled it

i need to turn on the function again

 

he just wants to set up a password to log on to his comp

he walled the IT guy but they are at another lot and cant get there for a few days

 

the problem is whan i do what is says there is no "local user groups"

at all

So the problem is that his account dosnt have a password and he wants to add one?

If this is all. You might try typing in this into cmd

net user $

$ is his login name, Then hiting enter I should ask to set a password.

 

Also you can try typing

control userpasswords

in to cmd also

 

Both probably require being an administrator.

actually i know it sounds dumb but when you go to the control panel it isnt there it doen not have the account users icon at all

i think it was somehow turned off

but i will try
