trustnoone Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 I am on a VPN at work and everytime I need to access internet, I get an IP assigned for that access and it changes each time I access the internet. Is there any program out there that would keep an IP address locked on? Thanks in advance.
TiKiGoD Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 nope, but you could probably ask your network admin to assign your computer one. it changes because it is a dynamically issues ip... so no program would work
GolDfiNger Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 actually it changes because it is dynamic, you would need to be assigned a static ip, which should be no problem for your network admin, depends on how it is all set up over there
trustnoone Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 Well I can't have a static IP. Here we have firewall and we get dynamic IP from ISP every time there is a browse request. In other words I get a different IP for my system everytime I visit a site that shows your IP.
Ronin Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 no, anytime you visit a site period. An ip is nessesarly just to request information. Tikigod said funny things
trustnoone Posted February 4, 2003 Posted February 4, 2003 Services like GoToMyPC installs on your system and kinda 'locks' on a single IP so u can access your system. I was hoping for a program that would similarly lock on an IP.

Ronin Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 well you can manually set your ip to whatever you want. And then its a static ip, although probably not a valid one because its already in use/leased by someone else.
TiKiGoD Posted February 5, 2003 Posted February 5, 2003 yep.. it's probably not going to work. i once set mine to the exact ip that i had before, and it worked... until i got assigned a new one. if you're behind a firewall though, it might be easier to keep a static one than it is to keep it if it is issued directly from the ISP
trustnoone Posted February 6, 2003 Posted February 6, 2003 Like I said I cant have a static IP. I asked my ISP and they said they are gonna charge me for one. Currently, they assign me an IP each time there is a browse request from my local office network. I guess I am gonna need a netwroking miracle to overcome this problem.
