ATI Radeon 8500 Posted January 4, 2003 Posted January 4, 2003 Oh I know the FX will be $400 or more when its released but I'm wondering about it in comparison to a 4600...
Insomniak Posted January 5, 2003 Posted January 5, 2003 Based on the card by power cooler, the 4800 looks like an 8x card that falls between the 4200 and 4400. Power Color GF-4 TI 4800: nVidia nifineteFX ll Engine 10.4GB/Sec Memory Bandwidth 128Bit DDR Memory 32 Bit Z/Stencil Buffer Core speed 274 Memory speed 554 Support Directx and Open GL The 4200 runs at 250 MHz Core Clock, 500 MHz Memory Clock The 4400 runs at 300Mhz Core Clock, 550 Mhz Memory Clock And the 4600 runs at 300 MHz Core Clock, 650 MHz Memory Clock Looks like it should be called the 4200-8x or 4400-8x rather than the 4800... Maybe nVidia decided to call it the 4800 because it has AGP 8x. Who knows... Actually that's not quite correct....the 4400 has a core of 275 and RAM at 550.... Other than that, you're spot on. And yes, the Ti 4800 is basically a Ti 4600 with 8x AGP support, whilst the Ti 4800 SE is basically a Ti 4400 with 8x AGP. Don't waste your money...AGP 8x won't do much at all for your performance. The games out todays don't even saturate the AGP 4x bus, so going to 8x is just a market ing ploy mobo manufacturers are using....you'll see maybe 1 FPS more with 8x than 4x... Cw4zYcH3cH3n87 Posted January 5, 2003 Posted January 5, 2003 does anyone know or have an educated guess about when, and how much a lower quality FX will be but will still outperform the 4600??
ATI Radeon 8500 Posted January 5, 2003 Posted January 5, 2003 Yeah the 4400 is has the same speed specs as a radeon 8500. I don't know whe nthe FX will be out but it wil probably be $400 for the top version and anywhere between 250-350 for midrange version probably.
