asus Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 well.. remember, if you use a switch you will have to have a DHCP server.. or statically asign IP's to each computer.. a router you will have the built in DHCP, and the switch.. now you may want to use the router for its DHCP capibility and use the switch to extend the ports.. IDK what you want to do.. but if you use a class C address remember that you will have 254 usable addresses.. just go to www.newegg.com and go to the networking tab.. Sveach Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Get a linksys router with a built in switch for small lans, and pick up a few small switches.....you'll be good to go. And Asus, going from ccna to ccie is a biiiiiig jump (referring to your member title) Im almost 3/4 thru my CCNA.
InvaderTrax Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 well.. remember, if you use a switch you will have to have a DHCP server.. or statically asign IP's to each computer.. You sure? henbenley Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 Last LAN I had, we had a linksys wireless g router and connected a 8 port switch to it. Everything worked great and everyone got net access too!!
andrusk Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 LOL. Yeah, you might wanna get your CCNP before you even think about getting your CCIE. CCNP is hard enough, CCIE is pretty darn near impossible unless you dedicate your life to cisco.

ravix Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 I already have a linksys 4 port router that I can use for DHCP, but I am sick of tearing down the network to have a LAN, so I guess more specifically, I am looking for an 8 port or more switch (routers with disableable DHCP are an added bonus) thanks. -eric
