Melchiah Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 does it boost performance or just not really do anyting cause i have played a couple games w/ it on and off and i ron't think there is much of a difference but i was wondering if maybe i am missing something about it like it makes my system more efficient of something i dunno
Eva_Unit_0 Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Nope, doesn't really do anything. Technically, it allows the cpu to write directly to the video card's frame buffer...but it ends up just not really doing anything at all. Really, it's just a matter of compatibility now. (the radeon 9600 series tend to like them turned off, for example)
r_target Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Leave it on unless you have problems with it. Then turn it off.
oralpain Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Whats the point in leaving it on if it may cause problems and absolutly will not help performance?
Desktop-pro Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 whats the point in turning it off if it doesn't cause problems?
oralpain Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 It's not always immediatly obvious that it's the cause of a particular problem. If it's off you know it's not the cause.
Ph33rh4x Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 6800's like it, pretty much every other card in the world doesnt.
oralpain Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 None of the 4 6800s I've had liked it. Granted my ATI cards hated it, but it wasn't good for my 6800s either.
Eva_Unit_0 Posted December 3, 2004 Posted December 3, 2004 I've never experienced a preference either way from a video card...every card I've had didn't really care if they were on or not. (granted the older ones straight-up didn't support FW)
