partimer Posted September 24, 2002 Posted September 24, 2002 This is my problem, I am working on a 450mhz amd with windows xp pro loaded and it starts up on its own at 9:00 am. I can set the clock to 8:55 and shut it down, 5 minutes later it starts. I have shut down all programs running that I know of and it still starts. Any suggestions? Thanks. william488 Posted September 24, 2002 Posted September 24, 2002 what motherboard do you have? check your CMOS, there is an option for bootup at a time, windows xp could not do that on its own, i bet it is in your cmos. if you don't know what the cmos is msg again and i will walk you through it plus post what motherboard you have. Shaggy Posted September 24, 2002 Posted September 24, 2002 Thats pretty sweet. You can play tricks on your friends and place bets saying that you can magically turn on your comp. Try it and you could make some money

william488 Posted September 24, 2002 Posted September 24, 2002 ive checked several of my contacts and they say the same thing, only the cmos should be able to do that unless you have the sleep mode or something like that, i even looked at microsofts msg forum and could not find that error. I think it is something in your cmos you might want to re-check that again. Sorry i couldn't help

YODA74 Posted September 24, 2002 Posted September 24, 2002 Have to agree with what has been suggested so far. there are a couple of more considerations Make sure you don't have a virus, or Juno, make sure the wake on Lan is off and there are no timed events. Try unplugging the network cable and see if the machine still boots up in the middle of the night. Even tough you have turned off the power the network card still lives. this is just a therory
