Hailstorm Posted April 22, 2004 Posted April 22, 2004 I did it just to take the machining marks down a little. Spent maybe 10 minutes on it. Put it on and presto!

slapnuts Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 so I quess its more important to have a smooth surface on your cpu cooler as opposed to your vid card?
TheSternMystic Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 lapping can never really hurt anything, thats my motto *laps screen of monitor* Sure it can. A friend of mine had his Athlon 2800+ running at 64*C Idle w/stock clock, so he lapped his heatsink. Did a terrible job, made the edges rounded off, and half the heatsink doesn't even touch the core...He asked me if I knew why his temps went up after lapping
slapnuts Posted April 25, 2004 Posted April 25, 2004 not good but I think he was referring to a proper lap job
