RaTeD-R Posted August 21, 2002 Posted August 21, 2002 Ok, Win 2k and WinXP have both been out awhile now, and I want some good opinions! I'm gonna have some spending $ soon and I'm sick of win98se. I want either win2k or winxp. All I really do on my computer is game(new games), look @ porn, and file share, so I want the OS that would best suit those needs. I imagine winxp would be my best choice, but I've heard win2k is VERY stable. Also, please include which version of the OS you think I should get. (i.e - winXP pro? or home?) Either one I know will be better than 98se.........98se sux!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ShadowLord Posted August 21, 2002 Posted August 21, 2002 My vote is 2K SP3. Very stable for games. Have seen a few Game problems with XP machines. Some lockups and stuff.
VolcomPimp Posted August 21, 2002 Posted August 21, 2002 I've tried 2k pro, xp home and xp pro and I love my 2k pro.. it's the best for me... I had nothing but problems in XP... Games ran better in 2k and I only really have problems in 2k if I install somethin thats gonna mess up my system or I dono... just random things sometimes come along but very rarely... In Xp games ran like crap.... had many problems w/ performance and it just really pissed me off... last time I used pro it screwed my system up w/ in 1 or 2 weeks and I had to go back to 2k... I defraged my drive and it took me 4 hours over the ussual 10 mins... (the partition I defragged only had games and stuff on it and I always defrag... I can go a month or 2 w/ out defragging and it still takes me like 10-mins... I went maybe a week w/ out defragging and it took like 4 hours...) Spookmist Posted August 21, 2002 Posted August 21, 2002 Hi I ran win98se but I got fed up with it hanging on me when I played UT online so I put on XP Pro since then no problems playing online but I now have a problem with 3d Max 4 as the crap Licensing wont allow it to run The worst part of all this is that I've tried reinstalling MAx and the setup baulks . So I suggest if you have any program that uses cdila safe disk dont put it on unless your doing a clean install. The games side run great for me rock steady and no lock up.
