WhiteBear Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I have a Geforce Titan when the ambient temperature in the room goes above typically 73/74F the GPU overheats and my monitor goes out and the only solution is to restart the computer. Can I downgrade the GPU or will an aftermarket GPU cooler also help ?
SpikeSoprano Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 what are your system specs, what programs are you using to monitor the gpu temp ? Is it a problem at load or idle, more info is needed so we can help !
WhiteBear Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 It's a Q6600. I'm using nothing to monitor the temps. The problem can occur mostly on load, but it has occurred on idle as well.
SpikeSoprano Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 First thing I'd do is install hardware monitor or real temp to see how hot the cpu and gpu are getting, this problem could also be related to a faulty psu or one with not enough wattage to run the card. WhiteBear Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 (edited) Any suggestions for temp software ? Edited May 2, 2016 by WhiteBear
SpikeSoprano Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 I use (open hardware monitor), it's free and should show most of your temps .( At least all yout mb has sensors for ).

WhiteBear Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 The CPU currently at 71.5C and the GPU is at 41C.
SpikeSoprano Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 If that is at idle your cpu is running hot , if it's at load that is about average, what do you have for a cooler ? The gpu temp is all right .
WhiteBear Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Those temps is the CPU running at idle, besides browser being open. Cooler is a generic CPU cooler, never decided to put an after market CPU cooler on this CPU, especially due it it's age. It appears that if I want to keep using it, I may have too ? SpikeSoprano Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 You might want to pull the heatsink off it and reapply new thermal paste, even a cheap cooler like the hyper 212 would make a big difference in temps, 71 is way too hot for an idle temp so under load it must be overheating and causing your problems. That's just my opinion anyway maybe someone else has other ideas.
WhiteBear Posted May 2, 2016 Posted May 2, 2016 Hyper 212 ain't too bad in price for the CPU, any other suggestions in terms of coolers or is the 212 the best bang for the buck for this CPU along with a new layer of thermal paste ?
