bp9801 Posted March 11, 2016 Posted March 11, 2016 Just days after Microsoft canned both Fable Legends and Project Knoxville, another game has met its end. Daybreak Games (formerly Sony Online Entertainment) has formally canceled EverQuest Next, the free-to-play entry in the popular EverQuest series. Daybreak president Russell Shanks explained the reasoning behind the cancellation, and it's about as honest as you can get: EverQuest Next "wasn't fun." For those familiar with the internals of game development, you know that cancellations are a reality we must face from time to time. Inherent to the creative process are dreaming big, pushing hard and being brutally honest with where you land. In the case of EverQuest Next, we accomplished incredible feats that astonished industry insiders. Unfortunately, as we put together the pieces, we found that it wasn’t fun. We know you have high standards when it comes to Norrath and we do too. In final review, we had to face the fact that EverQuest Next would not meet the expectations we – and all of you – have for the worlds of Norrath. The new MMO was set to be ambitious, but at the end of the day, it just wasn't something enjoyable and ended up on the chopping block. Some reason things just never clicked with EverQuest Next, but Daybreak is still committed to the EverQuest series, with both EQ1 and EQ2 "going strong," and Landmark still on track for a release this year. There's still plenty more to tell with EverQuest, as far as Daybreak is concerned, just right now, EQ Next is not that way. WhenKittensATK Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 That's a shame. It was like the only western MMO in production that I knew of.
