Guest_Jim_* Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Back at E3 when AMD officially announced the R9 Fury, Fury X, and Nano GPUs the company also showed off a dual Fiji GPU dubbed Gemini or Fury X2. At that time the company said this graphics card would launch this year, but with just days left, it is still unavailable. The reason for this delay has been provided and consists of two letters; VR. For the most part, modern games can be played at or near their max settings with the more powerful single-GPU cards available today. As virtual reality head mounted displays (HMDs) have to produce two images, one for each eye, the power of dual GPUs is desired for the best experience. Gemini is in part meant to fill that need, so AMD has decided to hold onto it until it can be launched alongside the major HMDs releasing next year. Working samples have already been provided to various businesses and the specifications for the card have also been finalized, so it looks like we just need to wait for those HMDs to launch. Guest_Jim_* Posted December 24, 2015 Posted December 24, 2015 It doesn't bother me, but I am curious what NVIDIA will go to next. Will it be the GTX 1000 series or will we get something new to avoid the GTX 1000 being better than the GTX 8000 and 9000 series?
