VDPD2005 Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Hey everyone. I am updating a cpu for a family member, but all I get after the upgrade is a black screen. No POST, no beeps. I thought that I was careful with compatibility, I don't know what the problem is. The computer is an HP a4327c. The motherboard is a Pegatron NARRA 5 The new cpu is AMD Athlon II X4 645 Compatibility guidelines are given here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01959710&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en#N191 I am within the power limit of 95watts. The new cpu has socket AM3, the motherboard is AM2+, which is compatible with AM3. (There is a note on the guideline site that states that the board is only compatible with AM2+ processors, but the cpu it came with is AM3 anyway). I checked for BIOS updates, but none are available. Any ideas what the issue could be?
DanTheGamer11 Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 Not sure, is everything connected back properly? Does it work with the old CPU?(either mobo is dead or cpu is dead?)
VDPD2005 Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 (edited) Just put the old cpu back in. Working fine. The new cpu came off with the heat sink. Not sure what that means. I inserted it with the ZIF, seemed securely in place. Maybe too much paste? Edited September 26, 2014 by VDPD2005
DanTheGamer11 Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 (edited) Hmm not really sure tbh, maybe the bios doesn't support it(not too sure, but the quad core you're using came out a year after the dual core). Do the fans turn on? The new cpu should be quite a bit warmer(twice as many cores), hope you applied the paste correctly, matched golden traingle etc. Cpu paste shouldn't be coming out of the sides once the heatsink is installed properly. The list is weird, seems like only am2+ phenoms II work, no mention of Athlons IIs either despite it coming with one? VDPD2005 Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 I agree that site is a little weird. The fans do turn on, the golden triangle was oriented the same way as the old processor. I've swapped out cpus before so I'm pretty sure the paste was applied correctly.
SpikeSoprano Posted September 26, 2014 Posted September 26, 2014 HP probably has their own bios made for that mb and that cpu isn't supported.
