Calling Old School Overclockers

See if any old school overclockers have some advice

 

Q9650 running BF4 and COD:G Maxed at 70-100fps (1920x1080, 2xAA).

 

I know this setup is ancient, but it still manages ok in todays games. 

BF3 & BF4 maxed out 1920x1080 2XAA at 70-100fps, COD: Ghosts maxed at 60fps (1920, 2xAA), AC4 at 40fps (Maxed 1920, 2xTXAA)

 

See if anyone who's been around long enough, and remembers 775 oc'ing can help me with the occasional (once a month) lockup.

 

It's the lockup where the screen freezes and the sound loops in a loud droning sound. 

 

Thanks if you used to know about 775 oc's back in the day and can give me a tip.

VCore, seems low @ 1.275V for stable 4.0 GHz,.. does your chip have a vary low VID,..

 

 what type of cooling are you using,..

Also it might just be BF4, it's happening to me and the rest of the world too.

 

I'll second that, if it's a BF4 issue most of the time then don't bother because after the big 1GBish patch they did I went from a GTX 770 and GTX 670 hardly ever crashing to 3 times in one round last night with the GTX 670.

 

However the obvious first place to try to stabilize if that's not the case would be voltage. Generally over time a CPU/RAM/GPU/etc will start to degrade and will need ever so slightly more voltage to keep stability.  Might want to play around with some benchmarks/stress tests that will make it crash NOW then try upping voltages in tiny increments/dropping the clock speeds to see if you can get it to go away. 1.275 is nice and lowish to start so I would prob start with the CPU unless your RAM is pushing it's limits (may want to reduce clocks on the ram with dividers to take it out of the equation)
