Photoshop / Video Editing Machine

I am in the process of getting all new machines for my users. I have 2 users that don't fit the mold of what I am buying direct from dell. They are users that do allot of photo / video editing. Putting together large compilations of media. As is they are frustrated with their windows machines because they are just terrible multimedia machines. My question is what would make a really good Photoshop / Video editing computer (stats, hardware), and is there something that dell sells that fits those criteria.

These people really want mac computers, but our domain is windows, and my boss does not want to have a hybrid environment.

Thanks for your help!

A couple of additional questions:

1. What software will you be using for all your Photo and Video editing?

2. What monitors will be used with these new systems?

To get the full color spectrum of Adobe RGB, if that's what you'll be using, you'll want a workstation graphics card and a monitor that will support that color depth. hornybluecow would know more details.

If your monitor only has enough color to support sRGB, then a consumer graphics card will be okay to use instead.

As for Photo and Video editing, some software may not utilize hyperthreading completely, but most often they will. If you care about the quality of the video, your processing should be done through the software (which will utilize your CPU). If you don't care about the quality of the video as much, then you can use hardware encoding via your graphics card, or virtu (via your iGPU) for faster processing.

Otherwise, stack up on the memory and you should be all set to go.

Check out my workstation guide/tips in my sig if you want a ton of information . Though a lot may not be relvenant.

edit: if you want to mess with your staff you can blow their minds and explain since 2006 Macs use intel CPUs so it's no faster than a pc , in fact dollar for dollar they are about double because yor paying for a apple logo.
