GabrielT Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 (edited) So I got the wife's video card upgrade done. Now the next thing on the list is a blazing fast amd quad. Currently running a Athlon x4 at 3.5ghz. She doesn't need a 6 core or I would pick her up a PII X6 but those are pretty spendy new now days. Her pc has a decent new AM3 board (I forget the chipset) but it supports 125watt+ procs so the question is. PII X4 970 with a say a 4.0ghz OC or a FX 4170 with whatever clock I can manage. They are basically the same price. Maybe the X4 980, never had an unlocked multiplier to play around with. EuroFight Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 I would recommend avoiding Bulldozer right now, for example, my FX-6100 performs like a standard quad-core, so a 4- core would definately underperform. I would go for the PII x4 if I were you

DanTheGamer11 Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 (edited) The Piledriver cores seem to be equal to or better than the Phenom IIs... but you'd need to wait for a week or two before official reviews are out Steamroller is the prime iteration of Bulldozer which is next year Also according to windows 8 bulldozer cpus are 4 core 8 threads Edited October 19, 2012 by DanTheGamer11

If not a Phenom 2 x4 is where it is at.
