DnaAngel Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 I'm a big fan of 2500K. It's even a better value now with the new generations out and plenty powerful for just about anyone. But I wouldn't get unless you plan on overclocking. That's where get real value from it. Look for the best deal you can though. If you are fortunate to be near a Micro Center they have them for $160. As for motherboard, I think my ASUS Gene-Z was a good deal for the quality. But there are plenty of good cheaper alternatives. Agreed, i5 2500k was a killer cpu for the average user. Personally I prefer the i7's because i do alot of rendering and run numerous VM's. Sandys were amazing overclockers, even on air. El_Capitan Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 You can save a good chunk of money and have a faster system. The Z68 boards are cheaper, same with the 2500k, and with the money you save, can get you a good after market cpu cooler. The Samsung low voltage memory can sometimes be found for $40, normally $45, and overclock very well with good timings, to save you more money for better performance.
