How do I lap mosfet ramsinks for videocard?

I'm planning to buy mosfet ramsinks to put on the mosfets for my card. I suspect 4 of them are too tall to fit so I may need to sand down the top part of the ramsinks by half its length using 600 grit super fine sandpaper correct?

ummm what you are doing isn't lapping and a coarser grit would make the job much faster than a fine grit like 400.

You just chose an even finer grit. And edited your post for 600 grit too.

 

All you want is to halve the height of the copper rods out of the top of the heatsync right?

If so you could grind it down pretty quick with say 80 grit or something like that, copper is pretty soft and it wont take long.

If you went much coarser than 80 it would become difficult to sand as it would be too coarse and any finer would take longer and longer to do what you want.

I don't know which will fit my mosfets but...

 

1. i don't have proper ruler to get accurate measerument.

4. contacted the company that makes this to find out what its dimensions but don't knwo fi it get an answer

 

any one know or suspect which one will fit? i think RHS-03 may fit if i had to guess...

update:

W1zzard from techpowerup just told me he measured my card's memory chips as 11.6 x 13.8 mm.

 

so I think i may get Pccooler RHS-03 ramsinks = 14mm (L) x 12mm (W)
