Erosannin Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Hey guys I actually have an ASUS Maximus IV Extreme-Z with an i7 2600K. If I wanna get an i7 3770K should I keep the same Board (which I like a lot BTW) or buy a Z77 Sabertooth or even P8Z77 WS????
El_Capitan Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 I'd keep the same board. I have the same, and it's pretty awesome. Why would you want an i7 3770K, anyway? You do know you may not overclock as high due to higher temperatures of Ivy Bridge?
Erosannin Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Ivy Bridge is easily able to do 4.6Ghgz without skyrocketing the voltage. And i7 3770K 4.6Ghz VS 2600K 4.6Ghz the 3770K wins easily.
El_Capitan Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 (edited) If 1-3% performance increase (non-iGPU) is winning easily, then go for it. While you can overclock using less voltage to hit 4.6GHz - 4.7GHz, your temps will be a lot higher. http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1924/8/ http://computerprocessorupgrades.net/part-2-ivy-bridge-intel-core-i7-3770k-testing-replacing-ihs-thermal-paste/ Anyways, the original question aside from using less voltage, what features are you wanting with a 3770K over a 2600K to warrant the upgrade? Erosannin Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 So basically i7 3770K is pure deception? Is that what you're saying Cap? If it really is then %$/?& it I'll stay with my 2600K
El_Capitan Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 So basically i7 3770K is pure deception? Is that what you're saying Cap? If it really is then %$/?& it I'll stay with my 2600K Pretty much: Pros: 1-3% better performance over i7 2600K at 4.7GHz (iGPU not included). HD 4000 performs better than the HD 3000, but if you're using a discrete graphics card, it won't matter. It also won't affect Quick Sync times that much, either. Supports PCIE 3.0, but only about a 1% improvement with a HD 7970 and GTX 680. Cons: ~30% higher temperatures over an i7 2600K at 4.7GHz No power consumption advantage over an i7 2600K at 4.7GHz, even though it's using .5V less. Wait for haswell to upgrade, and in the mean time, just make sure you get the perfect oc on your 2600K.
Erosannin Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 WOW it is indeed pure crap as new iterations for Intel.
Erosannin Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 Best OC I can get outta the 2600K is 4.8Ghz @ 1.42V Anything over that is not stable (1 of the worker of Prime95 stops with an error) even at 1.52V for 5.0Ghz which is WAAAAAYYYY too high voltage. Even 1.42V for 4.8Ghz is pretty bad.

I've been planning on testing this out for a while now, but never got to it. Edited June 1, 2012 by El_Capitan
Erosannin Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 But I don't want to step down fron 2 x 4Gb DDR3 2133Mhz as I don't have any other kit anyways and my RAM is faster than any 1600Mhz.

And why do you need the more expensive RAM?
