Waco Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I'd say you got lucky if you stretched it this long.
narukun Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 (edited) If someone with the reputation that you have, say that, then is true. I got lucky but by my own experience, I'll definitely pick another thermaltake psu in the future. Waco Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Generally it's just not a good idea to push the limits of any PSU; even good ones can fail and do very bad things to your hardware.
cchalogamer Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 (edited) While over specking the PSU isn't really a bad thing (especially with some brands) you had plenty power to start with at 450w to run fine I would estimate the whole system being closer to 400W in power draw considering a 65W CPU and 300W being a high guess for the video card maxed out. With the new system specs I would upgrade (like you did) because 450w doesn't leave a lot of headroom (if any at peak load) and that's not factoring in OC options with the 3570K (assuming you still have that) or the GTX 770. ir_cow Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I blew a 450w thermaltake this last summer with a 3960k and a AMD 6850. Nothing was damaged but It really didn't like hitting the 450~ limit during a 24 hour stress test.
