NikoDG Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 So, I'm getting a little impatient and I really want to upgrade my GPU. Now, I could get a HD 7970 now, and if I throw a waterblock on that I should be able to get a pretty decent OC on it and blast through just about anything. Or I could wait a month or two as the GTX 780 is SUPPOSED to be released first quarter. I'll start off by saying I'll never have more than two monitors, so I don't need Eyefinity, neither have I ever used a nVidia card, so I don't really know what PhysX is like (I know what it is, I've just never actually encountered it). Is PhysX a pretty nice feature, or is it just kinda there, no big whoop? Also, I might be using a 3D capable display, so who has the better 3D capabilities? NikoDG Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Oh, so not just any 3D display will work? What about AMD 3D?
Muchoman1 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Oh, so not just any 3D display will work? What about AMD 3D? amd 3d is even more of a pain, because nvidia 3dvision displays wont work with them, the only amd 3d ones i know of are a couple of samsung models, 80-90% of 3d displays are for 3dVision, so if you want 3d, you really need to go nvidia at this point in time
NikoDG Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Wow, so say I already have a 3D Panasonic 1080p Plasma, I won't be able to get my computer to play 3D with it?

Not likely, although NVIDIA's 3DTV Play kit could work. With monitors.. for AMD, this is pretty much it. NVIDIA, you have more options. bp9801 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Guess that seals the deal, lol. My tv is supported NVIDIA it is then. Just remember to use the Panasonic 3D glasses for it since the NVIDIA ones will not work. AMD may have something similar eventually, but for 3D, NVIDIA is king right now like Muchoman said. Try over a three hundred titles at last count. But as you said its not as noticeable on some games. Both Batmans it looks awesome. Mafia II looks good. PhysX titles I am looking forward too. ARMA 3 Bioshock Infinite Metro: Last Light
NikoDG Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Wow! Those are some good titles! Can't play them until I get that GTX 780 though

I just hope my GTX 560 ti can play it at max settings at 1900 by 1200. Also, for those of you who are saying AMD cards support more monitors, Nvidia just released a 570 that can support 4 monitors just like AMD. Now this is just my personal speculation, but with such a late release of a 570 it seems like they are testing the waters for cards that can support as many monitors as AMD can. In theory, they could end up applying this to the new kepler stuff. That aside, I would not rush to any conclusions just yet. It is totally possible that the prices of AMD and Nvidia will be more competitive and maybe a good 40-50 dollar price difference could prove to present a whole new discussion. Even though it is pretty clear cut now, does not mean we can't be surprised in only a mater of a couple months.
