I watch a lot of movies, but have a lot of trouble finding really good movies that I haven't seen. I quite often check the "I Just Recently Watched" thread, but I always wish it had quick reviews about the movie, so I made this thread. :P

Whenever you see a movie that you want to recommend (or tell others to avoid) post it in this thread (try and avoid spoilers) with the following format:

Movie Name:

Description:

Genre:

My Rating ( 0 - 10 ):

Notes:

I will daily go through the posts in this thread (Unless this thread is a big fail) and sort them by rating/alphabetical order and link them below. Feel free to post a movie that's already been posted, different people like different things, so the more "mini reviews" the better. Be sure to only post movies that you've recently seen (the past day or two).

Movie Name: The Third Wheel

Description (from netflix): Mild-mannered Stanley (Luke Wilson) only has eyes for co-worker Diana (Denise Richards). After he finally musters the courage to ask her on a date, he wants everything to be just right. Unfortunately, the one contingency he didn't plan for is Phil (Jay Lacopo), a homeless man. After accidentally bumping Phil with his car, Stanley can't shake the vagrant to save his life … and three's definitely a crowd on this date!

Genre (from netflix): Comedies, Romantic Movies, Romantic Comedies

My Rating ( 0 - 10 ): 7

Why I Liked/Disliked: This movie was pretty good, but it's not a "funny" comedy. Jay Lacopo's character definitely stole the film and gave a few good laughs. The movie had a good story, but it would have done better without some parts (Matt Damon)

Movie Name: Strays

Description (from netflix): Looking for an emotional connection after years of wall-to-wall sex and drugs, hotheaded dope peddler and hustler Rick meets Heather, a genteel beauty who cracks his tough veneer and spurs him to

leave his criminal life behind.

Genre (from netflix): Dramas, Independent Movies, Crime Dramas, Independent Dramas

My Rating ( 0 - 10 ): 9

Why I Liked/Disliked: I stumbled across this movie on accident. I was looking for a comedy and found this somehow. This movie was Vin Diesel second time in film, and was also written by him. I didn't think a film written by Vin Diesel could be good, but I was very wrong. This movie is not at all what you'd expect from Diesel, and not at all what you'd expect from its description. It's kind of a love story, but more about a guy changing his ways. The acting wasn't all that good, it's Vin Diesel after all, but everything seemed very real. Honestly, after seeing this I wish Vin Diesel would do more writing and less acting.

Notes: Written, Directed, and Produced by Vin Diesel

You want newer, older or yes? I will start with this till I get a better idea of the kind of movies you like.

Movie Name: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

Description: Hacker helps a journalist solve a serial murder case

Genre: Thriller

My Rating ( 0 - 10 ): 9

Why I Liked/Disliked: Normally I dislike the thriller genre but somehow I find the storyline intriguing

Notes: I think the girl did an excellent job despite the very tough roll she had to fill. It is one of the few American mainstream films that didn't over glorify controversial scenes. According to my friend they did a really good job keeping to the story. Overall I would say it was a well rounded movie. Better than the Swede version in many ways ...I was expecting a wannabe v2 to be honest.

Movie Name: Real Time

Description (from netflix): A lifetime of bad luck and bad habits catches up with compulsive gambler Andy (Jay Baruchel) when he's apprehended by a quietly intimidating hit man named Reuben (Randy Quaid), who's been dispatched to kill him. But before he does the deed, Reuben grants Andy one last hour to live and chauffeurs the young ne'er-do-well from one stop to the next on a hilarious journey filled with surprising revelations and unexpected discoveries.

Genre: Comedies, Dramas, Independent Movies, Independent Dramas, Independent Comedies

My Rating ( 0 - 10 ): 7

Why I Liked/Disliked: This movie was another pleasant surprise. The acting was ok, but the story was actually pretty neat although very unrealistic. It was classified as a comedy, but I'd say it falls more under the drama category. For the most part the movie really only has two actors (there's extras of course). Andy's relationship to Reuben was pretty interesting, and overall made a good movie.

You want newer, older or yes? I will start with this till I get a better idea of the kind of movies you like.

Newer Older Good Bad, anything. Just make sure you've seen it in the last day or two. :)

Movie Name: Organizm (Living Hell)

Description (netflix): When schoolteacher Frank (Johnathon Schaech) investigates the strange scars he's had since childhood, he unwittingly unleashes the deadly result of a secret biological experiment. Now, Frank must find a way to stop the organism before life on Earth is destroyed. With the Army planning countermeasures that could kill countless civilians, Frank and hazmat specialist Carrie (Erica Leerhsen) work against the clock to take down the killer creature.

Genre (netflix): Horror Movies, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Sci-Fi Horror Movies

My Rating ( 0 - 10 ): 4

Why I Liked/Disliked: I really did not enjoy this film. It was watchable, but the thing I care most about, the story, was just not good. The leading lady looked, and sounded, similar to Catherine Heigel which was interesting I guess. The acting was actually ok, and the special effects weren't half bad either. I just couldn't get past how stupid the story was.

Notes: This didn't bother me to much, but the main character should have bled to death long before the movie ended.

Movie Name: Cowboys and Aliens

Description: A small western village fights to save their friends and family from a hostile alien race who took them to to find the humans weaknesses by experimenting on them.

Genre: Action / Adventure

My rating: 9.5

Why I liked / dislike: The reason I liked it was because the actors did a fantastic job portraying the characters. It really makes the movie jump out and involves the viewer in the plot. I also have a personal bias in favor of anything with aliens in it. The only thing I didn't care for was it was way to short. I felt like there were a lot of different facets of the movie that could have been explored to make it more intellectual and engaging, but were replaced fast pace action. I think if the two hour movie would have been 3 hours with more words instead of bullets, it probably would have been the perfect movie. However, since the plot doesn't loose or confuse the viewer I only took off .5 points. Forgive my ambiguity, I am trying not to give any of the movie away.

Notes: If you are a true movie hater like my friend is, be prepared for some stereotypes in the beginning, but don't get turned off by them too quickly. They do evolve very quickly to add more dimension to the story.

Movie Name: After Hours

Description: A man gets off work and goes on a date with a mysterious woman who he's never met. The date doesn't go well and the man is left in the city with no money. He runs into all sorts of trouble and all he wants to do is go home.

Genre: Comedy

My Rating ( 0 - 10 ): 7

Why I Liked/Disliked: This was an older movie, but it was still pretty good. There were a few good laughs, but mostly the movie was just entertaining. Some of the acting was meh, and some of the ideas were also meh, but all around it was good.

Description: During experiments to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease, a genetically-enhanced chimpanzee uses its greater intelligence to lead other apes to freedom.

Genre: Sci-fi

My Rating ( 0 - 10 ): 9.5

Why I Liked/Disliked: Prequel to a classic. I liked its portrayal of human nature, it gets you to think... Great plot. Realistic and believable. And excellent CGI.

Movie Name: They Live

Description(netflix): In this consumer culture parody, professional wrestler "Rowdy" Roddy Piper plays an unemployed working stiff who inadvertently finds a pair of sunglasses that allow him to see the world as it truly is. Billboards carry subliminal messages such as "Submit to Authority," and yuppies are actually aliens who are bent on subduing the human race. Before you can say, "Die, yuppie scum!" Piper grabs a gun and starts blasting.

Genre(netflix): Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Action Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Alien Sci-Fi, Sci-Fi Horror Movies, Sci-Fi Thrillers

My Rating ( 0 - 10 ): 5

Why I Liked/Disliked: This movie had an interesting story and, for its age, the effects weren't bad. However, The acting was pretty bad, and I felt like every other line was meant to be turned into a catch phrase. This movie is definitely watchable, but I wouldn't call it good.

Movie Name: Rampage

Description: A man tired of society goes on a killing spree.

Genre(netflix): Action

My Rating ( 0 - 10 ): 8

Why I Liked/Disliked: I don't usually like Uwe Boll movies, but this one was different. It was pretty messed up, but at the same time very fascinating. I really don't even know what else to say about it.

Notes: Uwe Boll, Controversial

Movie Name: Middle Men

Description(netflix): After spotting a big financial opportunity in the future of Internet pornography, straightlaced entrepreneur Jack Harris (Luke Wilson) enlists his pals Buck (Gabriel Macht) and Wayne (Giovanni Ribisi) to help him develop an online billing company specializing in adult entertainment. But as the firm takes off, Jack finds some unexpected kinks in the business of kink -- including mobsters, the FBI, con men and terrorists.

Genre: Dramas, Crime Dramas, Dramas based on real life, Gangster Movies, 20th Century Period Pieces

My Rating ( 0 - 10 ): 9

Why I Liked/Disliked: This was a very well written movie, which although is fiction, seems extremely real. The movie was very entertaining and had the perfect amount of "comedy" mixed in with the drama. I'd definitely recommend watching, if you haven't already.

Notes: Some of the best acting I've seen out of Giovanni Ribisi
