Fan setup for CM HAF 922

Barreto

Recommended Posts

I bought this baby last week, and also a CM Hyper 212+. So my current fan setup is default. 2 CM MegaFlow (front and top panels), 1 stock CM fan (rear panel) and 1 CM Blade Master (Hyper 212+).

I like that red led MegaFlow, and I'd like to keep this color in my case. Not gonna change to blue or green or whatever else (for now).

So I got some questions:

1) What's the best fan setup for Hyper 212+?

2) Top, side and front panels support one 200mm fan or two 120-140mm fans. What's the better choice?

3) Is it worth adding a fan for the bottom panel?

4) Are Cooler Master fans the best out there or are there better fans from other brands having around the same price?

I need to make of this case a cooling monster. =D

When overclocking the more the merrier.

1. The best fan setup for air coolers or rads is the push pull config. The second fan will give an ~5c improvement.

2. The higher the cfm (cubic feet per minute) the better. Let's say the 200mm is 100 cfm, and 2 120mm fans are 60 cfm each giving 120 cfm total then the 120's are preferable to the 200mm. Keep the fans balanced ie, the two megaflow as exhaust and intake, the stock cm fan exhaust and get another fan of ~ equal capacity as intake or ensure that the case has perforations of ~ the same area as the stock cm fan.

3. When overclocking the more the merrier. Just balance the fan added with a fan or case opening (perforations). Make sure the air flows through the case.

4. Fan tech is pretty basic, so all manufacturers get the job done. Fans can be compared to mobos in terms of manufacturing in the light that yes some are better than others, but there are many manufacturers doing it right.

Oh, the bottom fan is for intake? I could swear it was for exhaust...

Ok, I'm keeping both MegaFlows (the red led one on the front panel and the black from the top panel).

Side panel: I don't know if I add two 120mm fans or one 200mm MegaFlow.

Bottom panel: I can add a 120mm fan.

Rear panel: Maybe I could replace that stock fan for a better CFM one.

Hyper 212+: Best setup is push/pull, yeah.

Here's the main question: which fan models? There are SickleFlow, Blade Master, Excalibur, and that 90 CFM Silent Fan (which is a pain in the butt to find, but I found ONE for sale, just ONE). The XtraFlo I can't find anywhere. It has the better CFM from these 120mm fans, but I just can't find it.

A reminder: I'm from Brazil.

Heat rises so it wouldn't be very useful. I use the CM sickleflows, they move a lot of a air but they are loud, I have mine slowed down.

Is that so? On its details, it says 19 dBA of maximum noise level. o _ O

But hey, a 200mm fan or two 120mm fans for the side panel?

I'm gonna add that 120mm 90 CFM Silent Fan on the bottom panel. That XFX 6950 produces lots of heat, geez.

I still have one unsolved doubt: 1x 200mm fan or 2x 120mm fans for the side panel?

Have in mind that my GPU is a XFX 6950 2GB, which produces a lot of heat.

For the Hyper 212+ and bottom panel, here are my options:

1) Buy 1 Excalibur and 1 Blade Master. Put the Excalibur on the bottom panel and the Blade Master on the Hyper 212+ to do the push-pull system.

2) Buy 2 Excaliburs. Take out the Blade Master from the Hyper 212+ and put it on the bottom panel and add both Excaliburs to the Hyper 212+ for push-pull.

3) Or... This is stupid, buying two red led SickeFlows and adding them to the Hyper 212+ so "it would look aw3som3". LOL <--- Forget about this, I just added this third option to laugh on. XD

As for the side panel...

1) Buy 1 red led MegaFlow. Would give me an airflow of 110 CFM.

2) Buy 2 red led SickleFlows. Theoretically both would give me an airflow of ~139 CFM, but one would push air slightly below the GPU (somewhat between the GPU and the PSU) and the other would push air above the GPU (between the GPU and the Hyper 212+).

Yeah, I'm decided to add red led fan(s) to the side panel. :D

Get the large 200mm fan and one red sickle flow for the bottom and call it good. I have tried both the Configurations and the best is the push in with a 200mm or a pair of 120mm fans if you are pulling. That's been tested in a hsf 932 so the results may very but the bottom

Of the case is initially the same.

Yeah, I was also googling around and everyone tell to don't trust on factory specifications, but on users' reviews. And they are saying that 2x 120mm are too loud and have almost the same airflow as one 200mm fan, which is quieter.

This answers the question for the side panel. Thanks boinker! Now I have to solve my doubts to the bottom panel and the Hyper 212+. ;)

The haf 922 needs all the intake help it can get. Having the bottom panel fan in place helps the gpu and chipset temps overall when I was using a 932.

The hyper 212 plus is good but take a look at the hyper 212 evolution. The evolution is an update and better performing revision of the 212+. If those don't do it for you the prolimatech panther or an h100 would do you.

I bought a SickeFlow to the bottom panel and another Blade Master to the Hyper 212+.

Not going to buy another CPU cooler, I already have a Hyper 212+. Maybe next year... I'm gonna stick with it for the moment. :)

Thanks, boinker.

Have the 3@200mm, front and side intake, top exhaust, bottom intake with a filter due to dust buildup under the case and the rad for my H70 in the back 120mm slot pulling from the outside. It pushes the heat into the case but I mounted it both ways and the temp for the CPU went down this way and I didn't notice any increase for other areas and the top fan sucking out the heat. Best thing I've found is to have a good air filter in the room with this to cut down on the dust buildup due to so many fans.
