Toshiba Satellite L40 PSL40L overclock?

Toshiba Satellite L40 (PSL40L) overclock?

I have a Toshiba Satellite L40 (PSL40L) laptop with a Intel Celeron M 440 (YONAH) 1.8 MHz, Intel 940GML/943GML (Calistoga-GML) + ICH7-M/U chipset, a 2GB Hynix DDR2 6400 SDRAM (max is 800 MHz, but currently running at 400MHz) and a MoBo BIOS version 1.70.

My question is, what do I use to overclock this setup? I know that most people will say I shouldn't overclock a Laptop, but I ALREADY KNOW THIS. Currently my CPU's are running at a consistent 50-56 Degrees (even under some heavy strain), I use a cooling pad with good fans, and the laptop itself is about to be scrapped, so I decided to just go with it.

I have no idea where to start--for example, is there an available windows tool for my chipset to do the overclocking easily? Because right now, when I go to the BIOS setup from POST, I can't find ANY options at all regarding my FSB's, multipliers, etc. Is there even an update for my BIOS (currently, it's v1.70).

It would be great if anyone could send me a link or a copy of a tool I can use to the overclocking, or at least an update for my BIOS so I can OC it from there (or is there a special key combo that I have to press while booting to access those extra options?) The best would be if anyone can share their own setups if they've tried and succeeded in OC their laptops.

P.S. I've always thought that my MoBo supports a maximum of 2GB ddr2 memory, regardless of open slots (maximum of 2, by the way). Right now, I'm using a single 2gb mem module on the slot 0. I used to have 2 modules (1gb + 512mb). But when I used SiS Sandra, it maximum supported size is 4gb. Any advice on this? Unfortunately, since my 1gb+512mb modules are 667's, I can't pair the 1gb one with the 2gb one to see if my mobo can support more than 2gb. And I don't want to go out and buy another 2gb Memory Module to use on my remaining slot, only to find out it doesn't work, since a 2gb DDR2 6400 isn't cheap where I'm from

the glaring problem your going to run into is that prebuilts usually use shadowed bios or lock bios so you can't tinker with it I have tried on about 10 prebuilt desktop system to unlock the bios with no luck even when I knew what mobo was in them so unless you can find a hacked bios for your board and that is no guarantee you may as well give up

dont know why you would really want to overclock a Laptop, they already run hot as hell stock cant imagine the heat problems with a decent OC. unless its a gaming Lappy your probably better off to leave it alone

Thanks for the advice guys. So I guess OC-ing is out of the question. Any advice on what I can do to make this old lappy a bit more usable? I know that GPU upgrading is a no-go. Aside from adding more memory and replacing the HDD with a bigger one (and a faster one... replacing the 5400 for a 7200 rpm one should give me a performance boost, however minimal)... what else can I do? I'm currently using vista (not because I want to, but because my current 80GB hdd doesn't give me enough breathing room to install w7). Unfortunately can't use a linux distro because my office requires certain windows apps for network jobs.

Any advice on how to test the maximum amount of memory my MoBo can support? Like I said, different diagnostic software give me conflicting reports on whether or not my board can support more than 2gb.

Thanks for the quick responses. :D
