John_again Posted March 25, 2011 Posted March 25, 2011 Cpu PLL voltage is set to 1.68v and at 1.70v Hwmonitor (from bios) shows a red shinny color! xD FSB must be at 1.55v, im not sure about that and i can't check it right now! John_again Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I can't get away from 4.20Ghz... i Guess this is limit for my CPU... Or i can increase my Vcore, but that will cause higher temps...
wevsspot Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I wouldn't be complaining about 4.2Ghz on an E7400. Is the system toaster stable at that frequency and those settings?
IVIYTH0S Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 how high are the temps now?
John_again Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 (edited) Ah, the maximum i get is 65c Im doing some crazy things with my pc these days... and its out of the case! temps now go up to 70 but i ll make them go a lot lower in the next week! And yeah... im the 2nd one @ 4.2Ghz with a E7400! And it's Stable ( i run prime for 2 hours)... IVIYTH0S Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 70c is still ok for that processor but that's probably your max OC. Still not bad at all!!
John_again Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Yeah i know, but... have a look at this! Verran 4651 MHz E7400 - air In the next week, if the temps go lower... i ll try increasing my Vcore... but i think 1.49 it's a bit high! John_again Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Uh, i want to ask something i just noticed... Does it matter that i use a 4pin power cable for the Cpu than an 8pin? Is this affecting the OC?
wevsspot Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 The answer to both of your questions is a definite maybe................. Sorry, not trying to sound like a smarty britches - but the ee's put an eight pin plug there for a reason.
John_again Posted April 5, 2011 Posted April 5, 2011 No hard feelings! I'm just doing silly questions! Here is one more... If i plug an 8pin, i could do a higher overclocking without increasing Vcore??
wevsspot Posted April 6, 2011 Posted April 6, 2011 John, I'm not sure. The additional pins do provide more stable power, but I don't know if that would translate into higher clocks without increasing the vcore. I'll use my own experience as an example. My main board is a MSI Big Bang xPower X58. This board actually has two 8-pin connectors. I've overclocked with just a single 8-pin connected and with both 8-pins connected. Neither configuration affected my max overclock or the cpu voltage required to achieve them.
John_again Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 I just switch to a 8-pin, im running Prime95 right now to test stability once more! My case is still incomplete with the temps go to 70c Maximum, i expect less than 60 when i finish with this..! That's good to know, so i wont get fully disappointed if i fail overclocking higher! One more thing, I managed once to show the Real CPU clock in windows 7... but somehow i can't make it work again! And the clock is @2.80Ghz (in windows). If you can share the settings for that in the bios i would be greatfull! I miss something and im sure about that! (Sorry again for my english! Im trying not to make lots of mistakes!)
