OC a Q8300

So here it is I Have Q8300 on a eVGA 780i board. The problem is at first I was able to over clock my cpu to 2.8ghz as a small test to see how far I could push it safly while getting a little better than the stock 2.5ghz. After abour 90mins later I got a blue screen while playing CoDMW2 as for cooling I have as follows: 2 120mm coolmasters with 9 fins as intake. 120mm coolmaster as exhause 7 fins. Cpu is 80mm Ultra low profile allminum. with 2 heat pipes and 11 fins, with a side panel vent cone over it for fresh air. and the stock eVGA NB fan. Also was thinking of removing the side panel vent cone with another fan most likely a 80.

Also Im running 2x 2048mb OCZ SLI ready memory. It says its detected but when I post its says its running at 800mhz. Insted of the 1200mhz. on this board that recognizes it.

Now I read on formus of people hitting up wards of 3.6ghz on this cpu with air cooled. All iwant is to get to 3.0ghz with out it blowing up on me. It would be greatly appreciated for any input.

I did ajdust FSB, the memory frequency but not tthe timings, as well as cpu, and mem. voltages. The Cpu was is the the 1.4v wich i think was i little high for that little amount of OC. and the mem. was 2.1v

Well heres the thing. Its OCZ SLI memory at stock its 800mhz but in the 780i board its supposed to automaticly post at 1200mhz with timmings of 5-4-4 and it says 2.1 on the sticks them selves but it wasnt running at that Voltage or Fequency in the Bios.

As of right now ive manualy adjisuted it to 2.1v butt if i manually put it to 1200mhz it wont post.

are the latencies set to auto?? You have to manually set them to what they oughta be

I'll try that late tonight and I'll see how that goes. I'll update on Saturday. But before I go I just want your opion on my voltage for my CPU is it set to high for that speed and if it is what would be a safer setting thanks agian

Yep it is too high. I think Intel has the "safe zone" as under 1,36V for that CPU. You should easily pull out that overclock with lower voltage though.

When I had my Q8200 it did 2.95Ghz stable on stock voltage, you should be hitting 3 no problem. You need to start over, your doing everything bass ackwards. Read up a little on how to overclock your CPU and be patient.

Ok so here's a update I've managed to get it to post at 3.0ghz with voltage set at 1.31v, memory at 900mhz with 2.1v, timmings manualy set for 5-4-4-15. However I wouldn't call it stable quite yet as I'm having hard drive errors and memory write errors so I think either I skipped a step and that I might need to loosen up my timmings

yeah try loosing your timings and set the memory speed even lower, I always ignore memory (aka set it as low as possible) until I find my CPU's max. CPU speed is the priority

Ok so here is an update i have lowered my memory back to stock frequency of 800mhz but ive losened my timings to 5-6-6-18. Its now stableized at 3.0ghz with 1.31v. But ihavent done a load test yet because as of right now I feel my temps are too high there about 55c at idle and upto as I seen so far as 63c wile playing a game. Am I right to say its high or is it just me?

Also I have 2 120mm intakes, a single 120mm ehaust and a low profilte cpu cooler with just the factory thermal on it.
