Hi Guys

This was my first foray into overclocking and it failed. I followed some instructions off of My link and these were my BIOS settings.

Ai Overclock Tuner.....................[Manual]

CPU Ratio Setting......................[21.0]

Intel® SpeedStep Tech............[Disabled]

Xtreme Phase Full Power Mode...........[Enabled]

BCLK Frequency.........................[181]

PCIE Frequency.........................[100]

DRAM Frequency.........................[DDR3-1451MHz]

UCLK Frequency.........................[2903MHz]

QPI Link Data Rate.....................[Auto]

CPU Voltage Control....................[Manual]

CPU Voltage............................[1.18125]

CPU PLL Voltage........................[1.80]

QPI/DRAM Core Voltage..................[1.22500]

IOH Voltage............................[1.14]

IOH PCIE Voltage.......................[1.50]

ICH Voltage............................[1.20]

ICH PCIE Voltage.......................[1.50]

DRAM Bus Voltage.......................[1.64]

DRAM DATA REF Voltage on CHA...........[Auto]

DRAM CTRL REF Voltage on CHA...........[Auto]

DRAM DATA REF Voltage on CHB...........[Auto]

DRAM CTRL REF Voltage on CHB...........[Auto]

DRAM DATA REF Voltage on CHC...........[Auto]

DRAM CTRL REF Voltage on CHC...........[Auto]

Load-Line Calibration..................[Enabled]

CPU Differential Amplitude.............[800mV]

CPU Clock Skew.........................[Delay 300ps]

CPU Spread Spectrum....................[Disabled]

IOH Clock Skew.........................[Auto]

PCIE Spread Spectrum...................[Disabled]

C1E Support............................[Disabled]

Hardware Prefetcher....................[Enabled]

What went wrong?

Also since this fail my 3DMark06 scores have been down by 20 points(only worried because of the competition)

is it related?

Thanks

By the way these instructions are for getting to 3.8GHz at the same time as telling me what to fix could you tell me how to bring that figure down slightly as i dont want to accidentally break anything. This build broke the bank.

Not sure why you're playing around with CPU Differential Amplitude [800mV] and CPU Clock Skew [Delay 300ps]. You shouldn't have to mess with those two settings at all unless you are doing some extreme overclocking (which you aren't). Best to leave those set at Auto unless you know absolutely what your doing.

Other than that increase your CPU Voltage from 1.18125v to 1.26250 and you should be golden. If that doesn't give you complete stability bump your CPU Voltage up just a little more (but you don't need to go over 1.30000v) and give the DRAM/QPI Voltage a bump from 1.22500 to somewhere between 1.25000 > 1.30000v.

Regards,

p.s. one other thing I just noticed - bump your IOH Voltage up to 1.20v................................

Your score is so low because of your video card. If the one if your Sig is the GPU you really have, a Geforce 7600gt is garbage, no offense.

Also what kind of temps are you seeing on your CPU? And what kind of cooler are you using? Unless i missed it, you didnt mention. I have the same motherboard as you! I really like it. My overclocks had better luck with CPU PLL of 1.88, Helped stabilize things i think, I also changed IOH voltage at the same time so im not sure how much it really helped. Someone else mentioned it, but changing IOH to 1.2 helped me hit 4.0GHz stable. Im sure it will help you.

I know the card is rubbish but i had a tight budget and the card was free, i am planning to upgrade soon hopefully to an evega 460 1gb SC. I love the mobo. The cooler is a CM GeminiSII as listed in sig. my idle temps are 30-33C and load 55-68C has something to do with my having two vantec tornadoes, those things are BEAST awesome 85CFM though they are about 60dc. Post your settings to get to 4.0GHz. When i get my card i might go that high just to see my 3DMark06 score.

Yeah sure thing, Im at work right now so gotta wait til i can get home and record my settings for you. Im hoping to push it to 4.4Ghz, but im not so sure my megahalems can handle that. Its pretty much the best heatsink(TRUE is fairly even and NH-D14 is alil better) and i have it paired with 2x 120mm Coolermaster R4's at 2000rpm 90CFM fans @ only 20~ish dBA!! Im confident i can get 4.2 though. If i have time tonight i might push for 4.2 tonight, but i dunno if will get around to it. But i should be able to get my 4.0Ghz settings to you tonight.
