Hi, First off, first time poster long time lurker.

Heres my new rig, i built it to run FFXIV

AMD Athlon II X4 635 - 2.9ghz

Biostar TA785G3 MB

Diamod Radeon HD 5750

4gb Crosair DDR3 Ram

Ok so, when ever i try to OC the processor i get a cold reboot, sometimes BSOD. When i try to over volt it, same thing. I tried using the bios of the MB to oc it, would not even let me post, only back to the bios to revert to the stock settings. i also used a program that came with the MB to oc it in windows, but no luck.... what am i missing? Am i just not using the right program?

temps are about 21 degrees C per core. I tried that, everytime i go up a little bit, boom, crash. I have read at other places for people who own the same CPU they got it to 3.3, i cant even get mine to 3.0

My 620 went to 3.12ghz, how high can you overclock it before it causes problems??

Have you lowered your memory or NB dividers?? I'm betting this is what's holding you back. What is your bclock at?

  • 7 months later...

Can you get some pictures of thr bios screens so I can tell ya what to start with? Also check out some AMD overclocking guides

I have almost the exact same rig:

AMD 635 Athlon X4 2.9 w/Rocketfish heatpipe

Nvidia Galaxy GTS 450 GC

2gb 1333/ 2gb 1600 DDR3, 4gb total

Biostar TA785G3 HD

WD 320gb

Kingwin Lazer 1000w PS

Did you try any of the software for OCing that came with your motherboard?

The disk has AMD Overdrive, AMD's own OC utility with all the bells and whistles adjustments or it has an autoclock feature, or Toverclocker, Biostars utility simpler than AMD but less confusing.

Both utilities Autoclock feature gave me HT/FSB settings of 225 on stock cooler and gave a bump to about 3260ghz, with 2gb only 1333 running at 1500mhz

with the Rocketfish cooler and only 2gb 1600mhz(underclocked) it went past 3300.

All OCing was tested for several days with a few runs Sandra 2010, L4D2,

and BFBC2. Just add 2nd fan to heatpipe but no time to test will report back later.

Hope this helps, good luck.
