Zalman CNPS10X Extreme + P5E Deluxe

Does anyone know if the CPU cooler Zalman CNPS10X Extreme will fit on a Asus P5E Deluxe motherboard? I want let the cooler blowing air towards the exhaust fan at the back of my case (CM690 II Advanced). There are two potential problems.

 

First of all I have two sticks of OCZ reapers. I guess this will not be a problem and in the worst case I can move the reapers to slot 2 and 4. (Although there is always a possibility that I will add another two reapers to my system in the future.)

 

But what I am really concerning about are the large heatsinks of the motherboard around the CPU socket.

The heatsinks of the Asus P5E Deluxe are about 32mm high.

It's hard to tell. You should try reading some reviews of the CPU cooler online. The normally give measurements like those.

I had the same problem once when I was getting my cooler cuz on my mobo also has a tall heatsink. Then I read around and found out the measurements of the heatsink, and measured my mobo's heatsink, and luckily it fit.

 

Questions like these are pretty hard to answer because it's hard to find people with the exact same mobo and cooler so really, the only way is to get a ruler and see for yourself.

I don't see how ASUS support could help me. Afterall I can measure things on the P5E Deluxe myself. But measurement of the CNPS 10x I don't know as I don't have this cooler in possession. But I contacted Zalman, unfortunately in their first response they gave unsufficient information:

 

Please check for compatibility as follows below.

The dimensions for the 10X series cooler are as follows:

135(L) X 100(W) X 160(H)mm

 

The necessary clearance space for installation is 140mm(width),140mm(length), 165mm(height),from the center of the CPU. Please check for case and motherboard compatibilities with the above dimensions. Thank you for your interest in ZALMAN.

 

I am now waiting for their second response (which probably will never come).

 

By reviews ( http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=2475&page=2 ) I found the following information:

The nickel plated aluminum fins measure 0.3mm thick and spaced 1.5mm apart, there is 37mm clearance at the base for adjacent motherboard components.

 

Regard the 37mm, Unfortunately I don't think they took the fan into account.

I had decided to buy the cooler and just tried it out. And I can tell that the high heatsinks om the P5E Deluxe motherboard were no problem at all. Probably there is still about 2mm room left. Further there were also no problems with the OCZ reapers (there is still about 3mm room left), so using four reapers would be possible.

 

Btw, the distance indicated in http://yfrog.com/mzcnps10xextremeclearencej is about 30mm. (In reality there is more room because the cooling surface of the CPU is of course located higher than the motherboard surface.)

Zalman coolers usually stink for cooling. I haven't paid attention to them in a bit. IMO, buy a different brand.
