actionstan Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 soon im gunna try to push my cpu to the max.. and was curious what does the North Bridge voltage (not the cpu-nb voltage) and the south bridge voltage do? do they increase overclock stability or do they really do anything what case woould you increase one of these voltages? (my comp is in my sig)
ebarone Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Southbridge doesnt have any overclocking implications. Increasing your NB volts can increase stability if the chip is cooled properly, but AFAIK thats only at a very high overclock. actionstan Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 thanks, sounds like i dont need to increase the nb though because im not goin above 4.0ghz lol
CowKing Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 increasing the southbridge voltage can actually be detrimental, and cause hard drive and optical drive errors
potatochobit Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 if you have an AMD CPU most likely you will need to increase the NB and the vid to get it stable properly.
ebarone Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Even at 4GHz, it would be prudent if you found a way to actively cool your NB... those things get VERY hot, and the addition of a small fan can probably stabilize your system even further once you break 4GHz.
