Assassin X Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I had fixed my fiancees computer, replaced a dead Sata cord on HD, added video card and added 450 watt power supply. Well it worked fine until today when I added 3 fans and an new CPU heatsink/cooler. Now when I turn on the computer it stays on for generally under 5 seconds then turns off. Whats going on? I checked the cords but can't figure it out! Is there not enough power for the computer now? Do the fans/cpu cooler take that much power??? Her PC stats are: -450 Watt Supply -P4 3.2GHZ -512 Ram -ATI HD3650 AGP -Basic Sound Card -Win Xp (SP2) -1 WD 140 Gig HD -2 Basic Dell DVD Burners -3 80MM Fans -Basic 80mm Cooler/Heatsink for CPU
TheMumm Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 try unplugging the fans and see if it still shuts off.
Stachman31 Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Maybe also check that the CPU heatsink is pretty snug. Sometimes if the coolers have the plastic push pins, they sometimes wiggle loose, even on a new installation.
Assassin X Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Yep, it wasn't snugly on there. Turns out the plastic frame had to be replaced that you screw on the motherboard (along CPU) in order for the Heatsink to grasp it right. I never knew those could be replaced. Learn something new everyday! Now it fits snuggly on the new one. Computers still is a little slow. Maybe its just because I am not use to an older PC. Mine is a quad core beast compared to her 3.2 ghz P4. lol. For instance I click a WMP and it takes about 6 seconds to load. On my pc it loads instantly.
