Miek Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Here is the PSU in question. Is it enough power for 2 5850's? It is a 750w PSU, 80+ Bronze.
PingoPongo Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Well it has a nice single 12V rail rated at 60A (720W). Two HD 5850s in corssfire should take around 316W so yes it should work just fine.
DatsMagic Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 I'm also going to xfire my 5850's. My question is can you have to much power? I was just thinking of getting 1000w just to cover myself for any additions later on.
paulktreg Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Crossfired 5850's have a peak power requirement of about 280W. A good quality 600W would do the job but you are very unlikely to find one with four 6 Pin PCI-E connectors and adapters aren't ideal so the step up to 750W is necessary just for the connectors if nothing else. You can never have too much power, the PC will take what it needs and nothing more although some people love the word overkill and slip it in at every opportunity. If you want to fit a 1000W power supply then go ahead it's perfectly fine, just make sure its a good quality one. Cheers Paul
