xboarder Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 my motherboard came with a RAID controller support...what is that and what does RAID do?
d3bruts1d Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 There are a couple definations for it.... commonly, Redundent Array of Independent Disk... You have different RAID levels 0-5, whcih define how the disk are set up... IDE raid typically only supports 0 or 1.... RAID-0 Striped - Data is written across multiple disk... this increases speed. RAID-1 Mirrored - Data on disk one is mirrored on disk two.. this helps if a disk fails, b/c you have a copy of your other disk... is slow. That's the easiset way of saying.... Your mobo may also support RAID 0+1.... it stripes the data, and also mirrors it.
Psywar Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 raid is very nice... and can speed ur machines HD's up a bit.. I would suggest.. you go online and read about it.. find out about raid config. 0 + 1 n all of that good stuff, and find which one suits you best.. v8vega350 Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 is raid even woth spending twice as much for 2 hard drives or is it really that much faster on raid
d3bruts1d Posted July 26, 2002 Posted July 26, 2002 Depends on what you plan on doing. But yes, RAID 0 is faster. Just make sure your drives are the same size.
