HoLoDreaM Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Ok i've finally got a cpu cooler that does a good job. But this being my 4th CPU cooler I've tried, I have always had a core difference of about an average of 10C, sometimes more sometimes less, but usually about 10C. I know how to properly apply thermal compound. And it has always been a difference no matter what kind of thermal compound I use. This can't be normal can it? Waco Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 It's entirely possible the sensor is just wrong/broken/whatever. I wouldn't worry about it unless your temps are too high (on either core) or you run into stability problems.
Boinker Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Check and see in core temp how much work the hot core is doing compaired to the work on the cooler core. It could be possible that the other core is resting while the hotter core is working its arse off. If thats the case then yes it "could be possible, but if both cores are at 100% then you could have, like waco said, a sensor out. or you may have a core going out. which leads to my next question. what chip and whats it closked too? kitfit1 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 This can't be normal can it? Yes it can. The contact between the core and the Heatspreader can be anything between good and very bad. When most of us were running Opty's, a lot of us got around this problem by "De-Lidding" the cpu. When you look at the paste that AMD used, you can fully understand why you see such different temps. HoLoDreaM Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 X2 4200+ Manchester Socket 939. Anywhere between stock speeds and overclocked to 2.5ghz, it will show a CPU temp difference of an average of 10C
Waco Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 (edited) If you aren't seeing errors I wouldn't worry about it. Yep. My 175 is de-lidded and it fixed my temperature differences as well as dropping temps by quite a bit. It was a total pain in the arse to do and I probably wouldn't do it again though.
