Paranoid Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 Just ordered a Sapphire Radeon 9600XT 256MB. With shipping and taxes it came to $300 Canadian. This is going to replace my 9600 Pro in my main machine (the 9600 Pro is getting reassigned to my secondary machine). Can't wait to see how far I can overclock it. That sure is going to help my 3DMark2001SE scores (currently getting around 13500 overclocked).
Nuclear Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 Good Choice. You won't see much of a difference though, maybe 1200 points in 3DMark01, no visual difference will be seen. It'll OC a bit further, but you'll need to put a better cooler on it if you want to really stretch it. Still a good choice though, I hope your happy with it. Paranoid Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 All I want to get is 15000 when it is overclocked. The other card is going in my 2600+ machine, so it isn't getting wasted.
Nuclear Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 15K is very possible for a 9600XT, but you'll need to upgrade the cooling and OC the heck out of it, and your CPU. I've seen those cards do high 14K with a maxed OC on stock cooling, with an upgrade and ramsinks, you should see 15K. Tweak it to the max and get 15k! Paranoid Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 I'm thinking of putting my Zalman Heatpipe onto it. Have to buy some RAMsinks for it though.
Nuclear Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 That'd be good for that card. Finding ramsinks to fit the Zalman is a PITA though. Do you have the optional fan and mount for it?
Paranoid Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 I have the optional fan for it, but I'm thinking about using the stock heatsink for a while, as it comes with fairly good cooling. Sapphire puts a nice heatsink on the 9600XT For RAM cooling, I'm looking @ these: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku...=OCZ-RAMSINK-CP
