XxHellxRaizerxX Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 (edited) I just read a review on the Phenom 2's as I am planning on purchasing the 920 version. However, this review said that the P2's don't like it when you raise the FSB and you will typically run into problems when doing so. I want to overclock my P2 but seeing as the only way to do so on the 920 is by FSB increases, I am worried I won't be able too. Has anyone heard anything about this being true or not, or maybe its just an isolated case? Also if anyone has any sites that show Phenom 2 920 overclocks plz link me up. thx review:: http://www.techspot.com/review/142-phenom2...king/page8.html Edited January 28, 2009 by XxHellxRaizerxX

damian Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 AMD processors rely more on the multiplier.
Krieg1337 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 How about this review of the 940?Not too shabby. For the overclocking yes, for the gaming, not so sure as the settings are on maximum, and that strains the GPU more than the CPU. Baulten Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 The 920 will overclock fine. You can probably expect 4-600 MHz out of it on good air if you have a decent motherboard (790FX/GX with southbridge 600 or 750). Increasing the reference bus is the only way to overclock them. They have 14x multi, so for, say, 3.4 GHz, you'd need 243 reference bus. I'd say that's completely possible. I've gotten my Phenom II 940 to 255 reference bus without messing with NB or Hyper Transport, just to see how well it clocked via Ref bus. So this issue should be resolved Getting the Phenom 2 X4 940 and BIOSTAR TForce TA790GX - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813138128 got a combo deal for those, $40 off I'm already aware of the BIOS issue too but I've come across the fix so its all good.
