Ricky C Posted November 29, 2008 Posted November 29, 2008 (edited) I am looking to upgrade my old Cambridge amp http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.ph...;pid=CAMB-A5BLK with something more up to date for 5.1 sounds for gaming and blu rays. I was looking at getting this Yamaha 5.1 amp to upgrade it http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.ph...pid=YAMA-RXV361 , but i am unsure if my 70W 8ohms speakers will work with it. If this amp is not suitable, what amp would suit my needs? Thanks Edited November 29, 2008 by Ricky C
Hyper Threaded Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 I wouldn't really recommend the V361 as an upgrade from anything, except PC speakers. The amp isn't all that powerful, it only delivers a maximum of about 40wpc and some of the components inside are a bit cheap. The sound is on the bright, tinny side. What sort of budget have you got? You should be looking at a Denon or Onkyo.

Ricky C Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 (edited) this would max out my budget, but should something like this would suit my needs http://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.ph...NKY-TXSR506-BLK Edited November 30, 2008 by Ricky C
Silverfox Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 The Onkyo is generally regarded as a superb piece of equipment - I only ever hear and read rave reviews about them.
Crisis Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 In my room I have my PC, PS3 and DVR hooked up through a Denon AVR-889. Works beautifully. There have been quite a few issues with HDMI and Yamaha receivers (maybe Onkyo too). I know on the newer Denon's it works just fine. Ricky C Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 I decided to go with the ONKYO as i woulkd not be using hmdi in my sound setup, it works well with my pc and ps3. I did look at dennon amps and in the the UK they are at least
Crisis Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 When I bought my first Denon amp I got it because it supported LPCM and 7.1 The PS3 can decode DTS MA and Dolby TrueHD then output to LPCM. So it was a pretty good investment if you decide to use it in your HT for bluray provided you have a good set of speakers.
