Timmy94 Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 (edited) yeah, 667 is pretty bad, and especially at 1GB, will probz get 2x1GB's of 1066 for like $100. but first a non stock HS needs to be put in the mix Edited November 11, 2008 by Timmy94
XiXVenomXiX Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Wait wait wait....so overclocking a E8400 with 800MHz RAM wont go over 3.8GHz? I was planning to overclock a soon to be mine E8400 to at least 3.6GHz.

I was planning to overclock a soon to be mine E8400 to at least 3.6GHz. Of course you can use 800MHz it just won't be as fast as 1066 unless you OC the mem, which often times involves loosening the timings. Thus slowing down the mem a teency bit it won't be noticeable to you until you run super Pi and see a difference in your times there (for example). Lemme put it this way: All 1066MHz memory is is 800MHz memory that has been proven to be stable at 1066 with, of course, looser timings and increased voltage. I hope thats clear enough. Timmy94 Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 yes, well put.
ccokeman Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 If you want a guaranteed performance level you will need to buy at least PC8000 memory. Miy 8400 does almost 540FSB so I would need PC9200 (575Fsb) to get to this level with an expectation that the memory will not be a limitation. Now you can buy lower speed binned memory but you will take your chances.
Timmy94 Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 2 or 4 GBs of 1066??
ccokeman Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 4 gigs. there is no reason not to considering the pricing structure on DDR2 memory right now
D@3HaM1nGuK Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 well i think the 1200mhz would be better for over clocking to 3.6 - 3.8.... 447(FSB) * 8.5(CPU Multiplier) = 3799.5(clock) 447(FSB) * 2.66D(setting 2.66D - 400mhz)(RAM Multiplier) = 1189.02(RAM Speed) i have 1066mhz rams and for me to get 3.8ghz stable 24/7.... i did ram speed 1058mhz... fsb = 423..... ram multiplier is 2.50A..... cpu multiplier is 9.... I have run both those FSB's on my Gigabyte and both have been rock solid stable with my Corsair 8500C5D DDR2 1066 running at 1050's and 1060's. Multiplers of 9x and 8.5x; RAM multipliers 2.5. Ran E8400 at 3.5?GHz and RAM at 1167, multiplier 3.00 stable too.
Timmy94 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 but is there much of a performance increase from 2 to 4 GB's in most games, as i will have to pay double for
MINDSCI Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Definitely yes if your running 64 bit OS... You will still get increased performance with 32 bit OS, but the gains will equal 4GB minus Graphics Card and a maximum of 3ish; which is still better than 2GB.
