exeter_acres Posted December 7, 2003 Posted December 7, 2003 OK, my friends, I wrote a quick guide on how to set FAH up as a service. Either use an install script (the script isn't mine but it works great) to set up a service using FireDaemon or the classic way using SRVANY.exe.... Directions can be found Here If anyone reads it and notices and error, Please let me know.... Fold on!
andrusk Posted December 7, 2003 Posted December 7, 2003 Its even eaiser if you use this install script. Just stick your client.cfg and fahconsole.exe in the setup directory, run an automatic install and your good to go. No firedeamon required. andrusk Posted December 7, 2003 Posted December 7, 2003 lol didnt see the link on your site. Now i do. I like it alot cause you dont have to do any manual registry editing or even install a third party program like firedeamon. just run it and forget it. Montol Posted December 7, 2003 Posted December 7, 2003 I used the same one as you andrusk, just edited the registry to add the -forceasm tag If you switch it with the 3.24 Beta you have a lean, mean non-stop folding machine.
CheeseMan42 Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 what does it mean to have folding set up as a service?
Montol Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 When you start your computer, it starts the Console without you having to open it, and runs it invisibly. Its just nice to have it chirpin away in the background instead of kicking around your desktop. Mind you, if you're running the Graphic console, and have it in the startup menu, its not big deal cause its sitting in the system tray. Many of us with really fast systems find running it as a service, with certain performance flags, allows better performance with less maintenance
CheeseMan42 Posted December 12, 2003 Posted December 12, 2003 so when you shut off your computer it will automatically shut it off? I just wanna know because when I used to cloe it without Ctrl+C all my frames would get erased. What are some flags that will produce better performance? Propane Posted December 13, 2003 Posted December 13, 2003 some flags (as recomended by someone) -advmethods -local -forceasm (you must have -service if it is a service) but all I use is -service and -forceasm
