VenuS Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Hey guys, as title say i just installed this new CPU. I went to amd site and downloaded AMD Optimization utility and driver for WinXP. Is there anything else i need to download/install? WinXp recognized the CPU without problem and all went good. Maybe i should install clean copy of WinXP? radodrill Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 If you're transitioning from a single core to a dual core CPU then you really should re-install the OS; but if your old CPU was a dual core, then it isn't necessary.
VenuS Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Yeap, moved from single core. I better reinstall the OS. Thanks.
jaz Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 I was just at that site yesterday, and i almost DL that file, but i thoght I'd better call them to ask them if i really need it. They said as long as there is nothing wrong with your cpu, DON't DL it. You don't need it unless you're having problems, like compatibility or sluggish performance problems. Like Radodrill said, all you need to do is re-install winxp. If you dl the optimization driver again, you might start having problems. If you want, call them and ask. They'll tell you the same thing Rad and i told you. Happy 'puting.
VenuS Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 So both things i shouldn't install optimizer and drivers too?
jaz Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 You don't need to install any drivers for your cpu. But you of course know you need drivers for your mobo, vcard, audio, But not your cpu.
