1024MB PC2100 Advanced ECC. HELP!

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to locate 2 x 1024MB PC2100 Advanced ECC memory.

I have been advised that NOTHING else will work in one of the servers we have at work.

I know they don't make this stuff anymore and it is rare but the prices they are asking is insane.

Anyone have any ideas on where.

And for my own edification, could some one explain the difference between "Advanced ECC" and just plain old "ECC"?

Thanks for any help or insight you may have.

Anything rated PC2100 or higher, should work fine. If the board locks it at PC2100 speed, anything rated at PC3200 should run just fine at that speed.

I don't know about Advanced ECC, but normally have either Buffered or Unbuffered ECC ram.

Buffered being Registered.

Ryder to the rescue. :)

Do you mean that PC3200 or below should work, but not PC4000?

Yes, I understood the term "Buffered" was referring to "Registered".

But I have never heard the term "Advanced ECC" before.

(course there's a lot of sheet I don't know nuthin' about)

EDIT: Found something about Advanced ECC ram here:

I doubt you will find PC4000 registered, but even that should work.

The board probably doesn't read the SPD to set speed, although it could. The chipset might only support PC2100, thus faster ram will still only run Pc2100 speed.
