Which video card do folks recommend for 1080P (1920x1080)? Not sure if 8800gts is good enough or if 8800gtx is needed. I mostly play fp/rts/rpg games (no racing games). Some of the games I like include farcry, titan quest, civ 4, nwn (2), I'm currently playing stalker and debating on suprem. commander.

This isn't really a thread about games but rather if the gts (320 or 640) are powerful enough for 1080p or if the gtx is needed. I doubt i'll ever go higher than 1080p - As it is with the 1800xt I have - i play 1600x1200 when the card can have it but i'm not that turned off by 800x600 (this is with the 20inch monitor). With a 42 or 52 inch lcd tv I doubt i'd want to drop back to 1/2 resolution so I'd like the card to be able to handle 1080p fluently... (30-40 fps seem fine).

I thought the gtx had 640mb as did the 640mb gts ? Also 1080ps is the same dell's 24 inch monitor (not sure why you commented on screen size - or did you mean resolution ?)

I thought you want to run that 42"-50" on it that why I said you need more memory! The GTX has to most memory at this time unless you wait another month or two for the 8950X2 for even more memory! :)

2 x 8800GTS (340) in SLI might be better at that high resolution...

Nope, the GTX takes Sli 320s.

The GTS 640 would probably work alright if you don't want a bunch of eyecandy on, but otherwise the GTX is your best choice.

I have some struggling with my 8800GTS 640MB 1920x1080 on a 37" westinghouse monitor playing Rainbow Six Vegas.

Nothing to write home about though.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814122018 - great deal

Even on 1600x1200 with a GTX there is some struggling with this game! STALKER again runs like butter! :)
