Opteron 185 Denmark 2.6GHz in a DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert Mobo

Recommended Posts

I'm currently running a A64 4000+ in a DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert mobo. As the FX60's and FX57's are rapidly drying up and are now overpriced if available, I'm thinking about dropping a Opteron 185 Denmark 2.6GHz Socket 939 Dual Core Processor into my mobo as they are still available and reasonably priced.

I am currently running BIOS version NF4ED406 dated 4/6/06 (which is the latest official BIOS available).

What could I expect, some compatibility problems or would the CPU not work at all?

Well your BIOS is good for dual core.

Upgrading to a dual core needs some prep work a if the upgrade goes bad you need to reload the OS. BACKUP your data!!! Because if you fail at changing out the CPU you will most likely need to re-install the OS. I’ve change out many of CPU’s you just need to follow a plan.

Check out Wevsspot thread. He had great success in upgrading from a single core to dual core. Check his post here.

Here is another link; How to install a dual-core processor

This is a great Opteron support thread. Socket 939 - Unofficial Opteron 939

Good luck.

I swapped my A64 3200 for a 165 dual core cpu in my DFI RS482 Infinity and all I needed to do was install the dual core patch. Not even sure that was nescessary. But backing up your data is good idea anyway you never no when something might mess up with any upgrade.

Thanks to all you guy's who replied. As a rule I keep all my data on my 2nd. HD (WD Caviar 2500KS 250GB) so basically, I'd just export my Outlook folders to a .pst file and copy that and my Favorites over to the Caviar Before the final shutdown/disconnection.

tasr,

Thanks for all the great linkage. I found the Unofficial Opteron 939 thread just after I posted this one. Lots of good info there. I think I already have the AMD Dual Core Patch, but will double check everything before I start. Opty will arrive on Tuesday (Newegg - $335... not bad). Using a Swiftech MCX6400-V Heatsink w/80mm Fan. Should work just fine.

Thanks again for your help guys.

I thru my new 185 Denmark 2.6GHZ Opty in my DFI Expert last night as directed in Wevsspot's thread (thanks agan tasr). Wouldn't you know it fired up perfectly and ran great. Now, no lag in Supreme Commander at 1920 x 1200 with all the settings on HIGH!!!.

Thanks again for all your help.
