what are you using to send the signal, component cables?

I know it has no problem handling that resolution from downloaded movies (mariposa project has them for free if you just want to try it) - might be limited through component cables or something.

From the x360dashboard you have to set the resolution to 1080i and make you are using component cables with the switch on the cables set to HDTV. Most HDTV's use 1080p while LCD monitors use 1080i. I have an x360 at work with a the same monitor. any questionts pm.

From the things I remember when I used to be a Home Theater rep..

Component cables cannot support the bandwidth needed to stream 1080P resolution (1920x1080 progressive at 60Hz).

Also to my knowledge there is no TV yet that supports 1080p through component.

There are 2 types of cables/interfaces that support HDMI currently.

HDMI, and Firewire. HDMI being the mainstream cable these days.

DVI can do it also, but it does not support Audio on the same cable.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Lots of 1080P over component TVs out there... I own 3 personally. The bandwidth issue you're thinking about is Video + Audio signalling, for which only HDMI and Firewire are capable of carrying the data. DVI is a Video only connection. Still, it will be quite some time before we see HDMI A/V cabling as part of our everyday HT setups. Not the least of which is no industry consensus on a secure digital format...

Anyway, you absolutely 100% need the Xbox VGA cable to output 1080P on the 360. It is not designed to work with any other cable. Output to your Dell 240_ will be at 1920 x 1080, and you will need to choose either 'Aspect' or 'Fill' mode from the menu, depending on taste.

Aspect will maintain the original ratio without stretching, but "waste" 60p on either side of the image, which will show up as black bars. Fill will stretch the image by about 11% to fill those bars, slightly distorting the horizontal image. Look at both modes and pick which one works best for you. I prefer the aspect mode, but it's up to personal taste. You can also fiddle with the OSD and manually stretch the image to taste.

Cheers

A VERY late addendum to this thread... but useful for Dell 2407 owners out there.

There is no 1:1 "Aspect" mode available when using the 1920x1080 (1080P) mode on the 360... except on REV A04 versions of this monitor.

Had a few WTF PMs from a few fellows wondering why they couldn't select that option on their A03 and earlier versions, and this is the reason why.

Otherwise a great Monitor for gaming on the 360.
